Beat the Heat on the Florida River

Relax on the Florida River

Is it hot where you are?  Here is how to beat the heat in Durango, Colorado, a 3 part series!  How do you beat the heat?  Besides the obvious of a cold shower, right?  Just kidding.  Durango has tons of ways to cool off and chill out.  I am reminded of an article http://www.durango.org/ put out last year.  It is the A to Z guide to beat the heat while visiting our little slice of heaven.  So, for our 3 part series let’s review their list with a few upgrades;

A– The Animas River has many adventures.  You can raft, swim, SUP or even kayak.  If you aren’t up for water sports you can walk or bike the 7 mile Animas River Trail that winds along the river.  One of our favorite rafting companies is Mild to Wild.  They also do jeep tours and Mesa Verde tours.

BBar D Wranglers.  Now here is too much for the whole family. Good, clean fun with supper, singing and stories inspired by the wild west.  Enjoy this talented and comedic group of musician from Memorial day to Labor day.

CCool off indoors at over a dozen art galleries in downtown.  You might even be tempted to schedule on of the many art classes at the Durango Arts Center.  There are a variety of classes for all ages.

DDurango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.  Need I say more?  One of the most breathtaking trips by train there is.  Make sure to book your reservation a few months in advance of your stay in order to get seats.

EEvents and Festivals.  Durango is never without an event or festival.  You can find an events schedule on http://www.durango.org/events.  There is everything from Music in the Mountains to a fabulous Farmer’s Market.

FFly-Fishing.  That is all I need to say!  Durango and the surround area boasts world class fly fishing.  Of course you have to start while staying at the O-Bar-O Cabins.  We have a nice little stretch of river that is sure to please.  If you need more adventure than that our next favorite place is the San Juan River.  Sometime Mike can be persuaded to take a Guest or two down to the Juan!

GGo golfing.  You know the thinner air makes your ball go farther.  So instead of that 7 iron you might only need a sand wedge for that shot!  Hillcrest is right in town and offers scenic views and quick access.  Dalton Ranch has a stellar view of the mountains and that crisp mountain air to breath in.

Stay tuned for the 2nd part of the series.  Or if you can’t wait you can always call the O-Bar-O!  We are always available for your Rocky Mountain Relaxation. Visit us at http://durango-colorado-cabins.com/
